Following the success of the Model Railway Journal Index, which was launched last year, I am delighted to be able to announce the launch of the Great Western Railway Journal Index at www.gwrjournal.com.
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to John Palk, long-time member of the Great Western Society and Romsey model railway club, who contacted me several months ago offering to input the data for the index. This he has done with great efficiency, and while I am sure that there are still tweaks and improvements that can be made (as is always the case with these things), it is now at the point where I feel it's ready to be officially 'launched'.
The one thing I still need to look into is modifying the issue numbering system to allow for the 'Cornish special' which doesn't actually have a number, and as such is currently not included in the index.
The site works in exactly the same way as the MRJ Index, so should be completely intuitive to anyone who has used that (and in reality, to anyone who has used any Internet search engine).
I hope the site proves to be of use to all GWRJ readers.

ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to email you for a couple of months about whether you were going to use the same index engine to do one for British Railway Journal.
Is someone working on this already, or is it something that there is still a need to start?
I say this from someone that currently has very little dime but *does* have a full set of BRJ ;-)

ReplyDeleteAt the moment I have no immediate plans to create a BRJ Index, but only because no-one has offered to input the data for it so far, and I don't currently collect BRJ (once I've got the full set of GWRJs I might move on to that!).
If you were interested in helping out with this job as and when time allowed then I'd be more than happy to set up a site though.

ReplyDeleteBRJ doesn't usually have such a large number of items in each edition as MRJ, so it should be easily manageable. the print run is shorter too.
Of course, that makes no allowance for how much time I spend reading interesting articles whilst doing it!
